MOHAI: Call for Creative Teens!
Hey, Teen Tixers!
The Museum of History and Industry (MOHAI) is looking to build and cater to their teen audiences by adding YOU to their advisory board--and they'll pay you! Check out the FAQ for this program to see if you'd like to join the creative museum forces of Seattle:
What is MYA:
MOHAI is committed to involving youth by providing opportunities for developing leadership skills and participating in the creation and delivery of MOHAI projects and events.
MOHAI’s Youth Advisors (MYA) is a place for high school students to investigate, explore, and be empowered to create a more teen-friendly museum. This team of ten high school students, ages 14-18, will meet monthly, set goals, and review deliverables. Tasks will include spending time with visitors in the galleries, interviewing peers, and attending and reviewing other cultural programs in the area. At the end of the six month commitment, MYA will plan and implement a culminating event at MOHAI.
Who can participate?
We are looking for creative and motivated teens that are interested in history and community engagement, and eager to make an impact at MOHAI.
What are the requirements?
Active participation in MYA meetings and events throughout the year: January - June (NOTE: Frequency of meetings will vary: once per month January – March, twice per month April – June. Meetings will be held on Thursday evenings, 5:00 – 7:00pm.) Assignments and projects will require independent time commitment outside of regular meeting hours as well.
Is MYA a paid position?
Yes—each member will receive an honorarium of $75 per month ($450 total) for their participation. Community service credit may also be applicable.
How does the application process work?
The application process will be competitive. MYA applicants will first be evaluated by their short essay responses, then through a selective interview process. Fill out the online application before November 15th! For further information please contact Amanda McDougal at Amanda.mcdougal@mohai.org or 206-324-1126 ext 168.
