TeenTix Announces the 2020 (VIRTUAL) Teeny Awards

Two online events mark TeenTix’s 16th birthday and celebrate arts access in the PNW.

Immediate Release—October 13th, 2020––The celebration must go on, virtually. This year, Seattle nonprofit TeenTix is hosting their annual two day event online. The 2020 (VIRTUAL) Teeny Awards will take place on November 21st and 22nd via livestream. Due to COVID-19, this year's event is an alternative format to TeenTix’s annual in-person celebration. TeenTix is dedicated to honoring the best in the NW region’s arts and culture, as voted on by teens, in a unique and interactive way.

At the 2020 (VIRTUAL) Teeny Awards, guests far and wide can enjoy live performances, special guests, art, activism, and inspiration all from the comfort of their couch. The ceremony will also honor TeenTix’s Arts Partners who provide $5 arts tickets to teens ages 13–19 year-round. Winners will be honored with awards like Best Aesthetics and the Youth Advocate of the Year. Each winner is voted on by TeenTix members.

Saturday, November 21st, TeenTix and The New Guard: Teen Arts Leadership Society will be handing out one-of-a-kind awards celebrating the best of the best with special guests and not-to-be-missed performances. On Sunday, November 22nd, the party continues with a full day of art, activism, and inspiration. Teens are invited to come build community with fellow teens and learn about art as activism from some of the leading voices in the Seattle community.

“This spring, we asked the young people we serve how TeenTix could best support them during such a challenging and uncertain time,” said Monique Courcy, TeenTix Executive Director. “I heard from so many teens wanting to stay engaged and participate in the important social justice movements and civic conversations shaping their world and their communities. The Teeny Awards has always been an anticipated way for teens and community members to come together and celebrate the impactful art in our region. We felt it was necessary to continue that tradition virtually this year and add even more ways for teens to celebrate and explore art as activism.”

Tickets for The 2020 (VIRTUAL) Teeny Awards are free for teens under 20 years old. Adult tickets start at $5. Attendees can register here for the livestream ceremony: https://bit.ly/33VK7mA. Registration is required for access to the livestream which starts at 7PM on Saturday, November 21st. TeenTix members can vote for their favorite art and Arts Partners here until October 27th: https://bit.ly/3lmocdS.

About TeenTix

In partnership with 75 regional arts organizations, TeenTix ensures equitable arts access for all young people and empowers young people to engage in civic life through the arts. TeenTix exists to break down the barriers that prevent teens from accessing art in our community, such as ticket or admission cost, not knowing where to look for events, navigating transportation around the city, and feeling insecure about arts-going.

TeenTix was founded in 2004 by Seattle Center and in partnership with ten of the resident arts organizations on the Seattle Center campus. Now its own nonprofit, TeenTix has facilitated the sale of over 125,000 arts tickets to teens.
